Pursuing emotional healing is essential to living the life God intended for you. By letting Him mend your inner wounds, you'll witness the true power of God.
Isaiah 61 speaks of healing the brokenhearted and consoling those who mourn. This profound passage reveals that Jesus provides more than just eternal life in Heaven. God's power is unparalleled, and regardless of your past experiences, you can find healing.
To start the journey of emotional healing, I recommend addressing minor hurts and wounds first. It's advisable to work through your most painful or traumatic memories with a professional.
Step 2 for Emotional Healing
Find Your Quiet Place with God
Begin by playing worship music.
Soaking Worship Music to help you start.
Take a few moments to allow yourself to fully relax.
Visualize a serene place where you can meet Jesus. What do you see and hear? Can you smell anything? Allow your senses to engage.
Example: I picture meeting Jesus at a lake.
It doesn't have to be a real place.
Picture where you and Jesus will have your conversation. Will you sit across from him, next to him, or is there distance between you?
At the lake where I meet Jesus we often sit on a bench. Other times I picture sitting on the dock with our toes touching the water.
Get to the Heart of the Matter
You may want to ask Jesus what he wants to deal with.
OR you can share a painful experience that is weighing on your heart.
Express how the memory made you feel.
Acknowledge the reality of the situation.
Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 ESV
You might consider revisiting the painful memory with Jesus. This process could require multiple prayer sessions to fully navigate the hurt.
What details come to mind? Think about smells, sounds, people, surroundings, furniture, or other specific elements.
Warning: if you're addressing a traumatic memory, it's advisable to work through it with a counselor who can guide your session with Jesus.
Express your feelings Jesus.
Sort through what is True with Jesus.
Ask Jesus what is true.
Remember that Jesus knows the whole picture of the situation.
Memories from childhood can be understood differently when you are older and have more understanding of the world.
Ask Jesus where he was in this situation. How did he help you?
Remember that he was there.
Although another person may have used their free will to harm you, that doesn't mean Jesus led them to do that. People can choose to do things that aren't the will of God.
What insights does Jesus provide?
Ensure they align with scripture.
His words should lead you to a deeper connection with him and bring you peace.
Work through the situation together. This isn't a formula. Let the Holy Spirit guide you.
Is there an older memory connected to this one? (It might trace back to your childhood.)
Write down any additional memories that arise.
You can address those memories on another day.
Invite the light of Christ into the Memory. Ask Him to heal the soul wound with his light.
Allow His presence to bring comfort and understanding to your heart.
Express and Surrender Your Feelings to Jesus.
Take time to identify and articulate your emotions. Whether it's anger, sadness, or confusion, giving voice to your feelings can be a powerful step towards healing. You might choose to write them down in a journal or share them with a trusted friend or counselor.
Seek Forgiveness and Offer Forgiveness
Reflect on any aspects of the situation where you need to seek forgiveness, whether from others or yourself. At the same time, consider offering forgiveness to those who may have caused you pain. Remember, forgiveness is a gift you give yourself, freeing you from the shackles of resentment.
It's okay to take a break. If you want to keep going check out step 3.
